How to have a 10k month blog image

Within my online coaching business, earning $10k in a month is usually a pretty big deal. At You’ve Got Clients, earning $10k per month is typically where people want to start on that journey. 

It really isn’t as scary or hard as you’d think. There are just some systems and steps you’d need to put in place to have a 10k month

You can’t make it long-term in the coaching world without making 6-figures.

When I was working at a corporate job I was taking home $3,000/mo. After taxes and everything that’s what I took home at the end of the day.

Then when I made my first $5,000/mo in my own business, I was excited.

But, when you’re self-employed, you often end up paying more in taxes. By the time I took out money to set aside, I was essentially back at $3,000. 

On top of the taxes, you have business expenses. 

Your business expenses may include any monthly software subscriptions, a virtual assistant, an accountant, a lawyer, insurance, equipment, etc. 

If you’re only pulling $3,000-$5,000/mo in your business, you’re not going to have anything left over to pay yourself, which brings me back to my original statement. 

You need to be making 6-figures if you’re going to survive as a coach.

THE 3 THINGS YOU NEED TO HAVE A 10K MONTH

There are only three things you need to have a 10k month. 

  1. A compelling offer.
  2. Know how to sell. 
  3. Ideal clients who want to buy from you. 

We are going to walk through each of these components and then at the end I am going to share how you can keep making 10k months consistently. 

1. YOU NEED A COMPELLING OFFER. 

A compelling offer makes people perk up and say, “yes, that’s me, I need that”. It pertains to someone’s direct pain point and provides a solution. 

To be frank, if your offer doesn’t fix a specific problem and doesn’t provide a huge transformation, it’s not a compelling offer. It’s also extremely important to be specific. 

For example, you can’t just say, “I help people start businesses.” Yeah, many people would usually like help to start a business, but if they have no idea where to start or what they specifically need help with, they won’t jump. 

However, if you narrow it down and say, “I help people make 6-figures in the online coaching industry,” that’s a lot more specific. That is solving a specific pain point with the income number and narrows down the audience to people in the online coaching industry. 

When trying to determine what your compelling offer should be, start by asking yourself what are the desires of your ideal client. 

What do they want more than anything, and then what is stopping them? 

What obstacles do they face on the path to obtaining their desires? 

Then how can you specifically solve this problem for them? 

2. YOU NEED TO KNOW HOW TO SELL 

This is where we get into marketing, advertising, messaging, and positioning yourself as the expert, some of which I’ve covered previously in 5 Marketing Tips Every Coach Needs.

Be as short and sweet as possible

My first piece of advice is to be as short and sweet as possible. You should be able to clearly state your offer within two sentences or even less. 

Sometimes we can get so excited and absorbed in our idea that we make it too complicated. 

We want to elaborate and explain on and on, but this can ultimately confuse our audience. 

Use words your ideal client use

Secondly, I recommend using specific words that your ideal client would use. 

90% of the time we are several steps above the clientele we are trying to reach, meaning that we likely know a lot more than they do. 

When you’re selling your offer make sure you’re using words and descriptions that your ideal client will understand and connect with. 

For example, if your ideal client is brand new to the online business space, they likely won’t know what a funnel is or how it works. 

I would not recommend using the word “funnel” and instead, describe the benefits or results a funnel will get them. 

Use all resources and materials at your disposal

Lastly, I recommend using all of the resources and materials at your disposal. 

Use past client testimonials, webinars, Facebook ads, IG reels and stories, blogs, Pinterest, YouTube, LIVE streams, etc. Anything that helps you put your message out there. 

Once you have a firm grasp on what you want to offer and how to word it, you’ll find it’s easy to share it across multiple platforms. 

Clarity is key. 

3. YOU NEED IDEAL CLIENTS WHO WANT TO BUY FROM YOU

You absolutely can’t go into your launch wanting to sell to everyone. 

When you become overly generic with your messaging you just can’t obtain that relatability or connection you need to convert. It’s kind of like a lotion bottle. 

If you’re presented with two bottles with the same lotion and one is just in a white, plastic bottle with the word, “lotion” on it you might be interested if you’re in the market for some lotion. 

However, if the other one says things like, “made with Shea butter”, “sandalwood and orchid scented”, “buttery soft skin” — you’re likely going to be a LOT more interested. Especially if your skin is dry and you love a sandalwood scent. 

When determining your ideal client you want to think about the specifics. Try making an avatar of them in your head. 

How old are they? 

What kind of music do they listen to, or shows do they watch? 

Are they in school? 

What kind of jobs are they attracted to? 

Try to determine as many details as possible you could pull from. 

When trying to figure out how to have a 10k month, if you can have a clear offer, know how to sell it, and know who to sell it to, you’ll find that success is well within reach. 

HOW TO HAVE A 10K MONTH CONSISTENTLY

Where many coaches get tripped up is how to have a 10k month consistently. 

When building your online business it’s important to have systems and consistency throughout. 

When it comes to sales and launches, have a specific process that you know works for you, and that you can plug in different offers into. 

From there, you want to make sure you have consistency with your audience. 

“In most cases, people aren’t just going to be ready to jump on board and buy when they first come across your content.” 

You have to nurture them and warm them up before you can sell to them. 

PRODUCE CONSISTENT CONTENT!

Produce consistent content like LIVE streams, Instagram Reels, blog posts, podcasts, etc. 

Whatever you can see yourself being able to push out consistently, coin that and use it to build a relationship with your audience.
